Solar + Steel Assisted Living
Maui, HI
Maui, like all the Hawaiian Islands, depends on construction materials being imported into the islands. Except for a some commercial buildings, the primary construction materials are wood framed. Our climate and significant termite population represent a real threat to long term building survivability with the use of wood products. Thus, steel represented a better building material with a similar cost structure to wood.
As a developer, my priorities for choosing a building system were dependent on reducing time of construction with use of a prefabricated system, which in turn reduces the utilization of higher cost local labor, not to mention reducing risk of product incompatibility and liability. I had looked at a number of potential systems, but Ecosteel stood out for a number of reasons.
Firstly, Ecosteel is not just a product vendor, but rather a visionary design team fused with an intelligent and green building system. Secondly, they are passionate about their product and eager to demonstrate it's value. And finally, Ecosteel had already demonstrated their products in Maui with the the construction of the Maui Oil Building, whose owner provided excellent recommendations of Ecosteel's products.
Ecosteel's team of visionaries includes, Joss Hudson project lead, and Paolo Volpis, Designer, who were instrumental in translating our company's vision into the final unique niche product that we wanted to bring to market. Without this team, I doubt we could have been able to create such unique townhomes.
