This 1,700 square foot prefab modern steel home located on the hillside above Silver Lake Reservoir, Los Angeles, CA, will be constructed in an established neighborhood with very limited site access. A prefabricated kit of parts was essential to completing this project with only one side of the site accessible by construction equipment.

This client’s religious beliefs call for a design with no right angles, and EcoSteel’s parametric 3D Revit modeling and detailing are essential to converting this project from a design to reality.

The Silver Lake Project will also feature an all clearspan interior, 300 square feet of cantilevered decking, and large walls of glass to take advantage of the site’s breathtaking views. In spite of these large walls of glass, the project easily exceeds title 24 green code and is equipped with unmatched R32 pre-insulated steel roof panels, and R24 pre-insulated steel wall panels.

Prefab Steel Loft Apartments

The Forj Lofts is a steel apartment building with a Minimalistic/Scandinavian design. Residing on the Atlantic coast of Delaware, the prefab metal apartment building is engineered for extreme wind loads. The Forj name is a play on words for an Iron Forge, as there is nothing but steel used for the building components. Limited staging areas for material and crew mandated a carefully executed shipment and assembly program. This residential steel building is just one example of how steel can be used in multi-family construction.

Fire Rebuild

Ultra Modern Prefab Home by Architect Hector Magnus

This amazing design expresses the strength and beauty of the all metal and modern fire resistant prefabricated home. EcoSteel Bolted Frame and Custom Roof/Wall & Trim components provide a fire resistant and energy efficient building envelope.

Faced with rebuilding after a firestorm that devastated the community, the owner — a well-respected artist — desired that his house deviate from the prominent local design language in order to bring an optimistic, contemporary voice to the scene. He also wanted the house to be an environment where he could create and display his artwork, while being inspired by the surrounding natural setting. To achieve this effect, large, expansive walls were utilized to display paintings, huge glass doors open to endless views, and a subtle color palette of materials was employed to allow art and nature to take the spotlight.

Set on a 1/4-acre sloping lot, the supporting superstructure came to the site as pre-engineered, prefabricated, recycled steel framing and was designed to be protected within the interior volume. The metal skeleton allows for expansive openings that are filled with metal-framed glass. The remaining exterior is wrapped with a fire-resistant skin of color-enhanced insulated metal panels. Overall, the concept of resilience is the focus.

Forced by circumstance, this artist residence integrated a commercial prefabricated engineered system into a modern steel home that provides a definitive edge for contemporary design in Santa Barbara and California’s central coast.

Custom Steel Home

This new Bay Area custom all steel home has many exciting features, including walls of glass with commanding views. With a roof deck, sliding sun shades and a living area of just over 3,000SF, this stunning EcoSteel custom steel building in California (designed by Paolo Volpis) is now under construction. The owner specified a custom dark grey/ metallic finish for the exterior wall panels. The doors and windows will be Fleetwood Glass, along with the roof top hand rails.

Sitting near a fault line, the custom steel home is engineered for extreme seismic forces. The design incorporates superior energy efficient roof and wall panels that will exceed Title 24 Code requirements.
