EcoSteel Clients Craig and wife Alena aren’t sure how they’ll use the Auxiliary Dwelling Unit (ADU) they will soon have built on their Vista, Calif. property. But they and their contractor are certain the ADU will be constructed of steel from EcoSteel.
That 800-square-foot home will feature an entrance leading into a combined living room and kitchen. A pair of bedrooms will be placed left and right of the kitchen. Enormous windows will help flood the interior with natural light, as will sliding glass doors dividing the interior from an outside concrete deck. The home will feature a light gray exterior with darker gray framing accents and interiors of sheetrock white. A light-colored roof will reflect sunlight to help keep the home cool.
Craig found building an ADU with EcoSteel provided one advantage after another. The first is beautiful aesthetics. “EcoSteel has done a great job with the side paneling and their roofing, to give it a nice, modern look,” he says.
Other benefits include steel’s inherent value and ability to resist natural disasters like earthquakes and wildfires. The home’s location 45 miles north of San Diego leaves it vulnerable to east winds that can carry explosive fire. Steel’s resistance to the mold, warping and splitting plaguing wood construction was another consideration.
Craig doesn’t believe the microhome’s construction will take longer than four to six months, meaning his ADU should be ready by summer 2022. He’s convinced steel is the right ADU choice. “EcoSteel is on the right path,” he says.
